What grows on which fields, how is the climate in the valley and on the slopes different, and how do the new climate conditions affect farmers’ working conditions, product quality, and income: In Baden-Württemberg, a high-performance computer is currently calculating a future prognosis by the University of Hohenheim that is to answer questions such as this precisely - down to the square kilometer. This is possible because the research group “Regional Climate Change” (FOR 1695) brings together physicists, soil scientists, plant scientists, and agricultural economists in one team. This is an approach that is unique in the world and that the German Research Foundation is now supporting for another three years with 2 million euros. The project is to be completed in 2018.
