Research profile

The research focus on the bioeconomy spans the spectrum from plant and animal production to new, primarily biotechnological conversion processes and the necessary processes of change in the economy and society.

Agricultural, natural, business, economic, and social sciences work on all facets of bioeconomy. In this way, a holistic approach is created that includes the entire value chain of Bioeconomy.

According to its current structural and development plan, the University of Hohenheim thereby aims to work on and expand the following topic fields across the University:

  • Sustainable development: Climate, resources, environment, economy
  • Securing the global food supply, healthy food products and balanced diets
  • Bioenergy and renewable resources
  • Genomic diversity in plants, animals, and micro-organisms
  • Innovation and funding
  • Consumer, competition, and risk analyses
